I have a 2007, C6 coupe, which I love, but, the brake dust on the chrome wheels is driving me crazy. Does anybody have a solution to this dilemma? I've put brake dust guards on my Avalanche, but, I don't see this working on my vette.

How hard, and often do you drive the car? You should wash and waz the wheels regularly ... then dust with a California duster in between washings (remember to WAIT for the rotors to cool before washing the wheels). I generally don't have issues with my C5 ... but it is not my daily driver.

Of the 4 cars in daily use at my house, we typically dust and/or bucket wash the alloy wheels (non chrome, non-aluminum) on a regular basis, and do not have a problem. We also do not use dust shields (no need), except on one vehicle that has many small crevices.

I don't think that there is an easy answer. Washing frequently is an answer but it is not easy. I am not bothered on my Blazer but the Impala and the C6 with open wheels are a constant problem. There are some things on the market to making the washing supposedly easier. I found them in the sea of wax and tire treatments at Wal-Mart. Waxing the wheels on my C6 still does not make the stuff easy to come off.

Some good news. I picked up a product called "No More Dust" wheel cleaner, made by Proffessional's Favorite out of Roanoke,Va. It's safe for ABS plastic,anodized,chrome, clear coat factory treated wheels,factory painted and metal hubcaps. I used it today and it worked very well. My wife and I drive this car on a regular basis, so, I think this product will quicken up the cleanup time. We like to drive this car and it doesn't always need to be washed and waxed, but, the wheels are forever getting dirty with brake dust, so, I'm glad I found it.

I am not a wrench-head, but, my understanding is that, depending on what brake pads you use, brake dust is usually a fact of life. Whatever remedy you choose to remove the brake dust, it's best not to let the brake dust remain on the wheels for unusually long periods of time. Constant heating of the wheels (from normal use) can bake on the brake dust ... hence ... the suggestion to wash the wheels frequently. If you use some sort of wax, it should make washing the wheels much easier.

I have the same problem, no solution, just clean them weekely.

I don't believe that waxing the wheels is the answer since the wax gets warm with the wheel and will grab the dust and hold it. I was told to use a sealer on the wheels and have had success curing dust build up using "Finnish First." I was given the information on this product from a custom wheel dealer but I could not find the product in any store. I did find it online at finnishfirstpolish.com.
